ADRA (Intern'l Relief)

Split Pea Soup

Ingredients:

Cooking Spray
1 (16 oz.) pkg. dried green split peas, rinsed
1 ½ cups diced ham
1 large carrots, peeled and sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 rib celery, chopped
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped,
1/2 tsp. fresh pepper
1 1/2 quarts hot water
2 teaspoons garlic paste
salt to taste

Directions:

1. Lightly spray slow cooker with cooking spray
2. Layer ingredients in slow cooker in the order given.
3. Pour hot water over the mixture. Do not stir.
4. Cover and cook on HIGH 4-5 hours or on LOW 810 hours until peas are very soft.
5. Remove bay leaf.
6. Mash peas to thicken more. Add garlic paste,
7. If cooking on LOW, turn heat to HIGH and cook for an additional 20 minutes.
8. Sprinkle salt to taste before serving.
